The city of Truxton, NY was named for Commodore Truxtun.

Truxtun Historic District was the first wartime government housing project constructed exclusively for blacks in the United States. Named for Thomas Truxtun, an early naval hero, the forty-three-acre neighborhood was developed during World War I to accommodate the growing work force at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth.
