Shipmates,

I surely hope everyone is remaining safe and healthy during this trying time.

Based on the uncertainty of this COVID pandemic, as well as the status of where this country is headed after everyone gets the vaccine the USS TRUXTUN ASSOCIATION Board of Directors (Present and Past Presidents) the decision had been made to postpone once again our Portland, Maine reunion until 2022.

The hotel and the tour companies are still willing to entertain us in 2022. The pricing currently will be the same as it would have been for 2020, however economics will have to be considered. Hopefully I can get them to commit around January 2022.

We will be working on a couple of ZOOM meetings, chat sessions etc. with all the association members interested in the coming months. Keep an eye on the website and Facebook pages for more information.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the information below.

Once again, until our next reunion God Speed.

PJ Byrne

We will have a guided overview of the grounds before exploring on our own the numerous hands-on exhibits, boat-building demonstrations, lobstering exhibit, and a special lighthouse exhibit (view from the top of the lighthouse without climbing any stairs). A Victorian shipbuilder’s home is also on the grounds of an historic shipyard. Most of the shipyards original buildings, plus tools and equipment, are on view. In the center of the yard, a full-scale metal sculpture of the schooner Wyoming’s bow and stern gives visitors a sense of the enormous size of the ship.

Shipyard & Lighthouse Cruise (enclosed boat) (12-1pm)
A one-hour cruise on the Kennebec River, near where it meets the Atlantic. We will explore the Kennebec River where American shipbuilding began more than 400 years ago and continues today. We will cruise past Bath Iron Works for a spectacular view of the Navy’s most advanced ships under construction, then cruise downriver for a water view of the museum’s historic Percy & Small Shipyard and a close-up look at two lighthouses: Doubling Point Light and the Kennebec Range Lights, as well as landmarks, islands, and the sea birds on this narrated cruise.
